Default Saving energy to help the planet.

We all know that there are millions upon millions of people living on our planet and the daily use of electricity is astounding. But there are ways to cut down on that usage at home, and the following is one simple and easy way to do just that.

Clean your refrigerator coils often as the your refrigerator is responsible for 15% of your energy bill each month and is right up there with your AC and heating system when it comes to running up your electric bill.

So here is an easy way to help the refrigerator use less electricity. Clean the coils.

To clean the coils, first unplug the unit, then remove the kick guard at the bottom front of the appliance. This guard is held on by either clips or by 2 screws. Opening the refrigerator door can help facilitate access to the kick plate.

Once the plate is off, use the crevice tool on your vacuum to remove the dirt and dust, running a duster brush over the coils next then use the crevice tool again to pick up any dust that you have removed with the brush.

Put the kick plate back on and plug in the fridge. By doing this, you can save up to $100 a year on your electric bill.

A refridgerator is an energy sucker thats for sure!

The coils on my fridge get yucky really fast, especially in the winter months because we burn wood and coal for heat most of the time. The dust attracts to those coils and they get covered up fast. At Family Dollar they sell a brush that is designed specifically for cleaning the coils and it works really good. I am sure it is sold at different places as well. It's only a couple of bucks and well worth the money.

I have slowly been switching over to those energy efficient light bulbs as well. They are just so expensive to begin with that it makes it difficult to switch all at once. I have about half of my house switched over and every payday I buy a couple more. It is worth it in the end because they do save on electricity and they last way longer then the old bulbs do.

On the outside of my house I have been adding those solar lamps. I had never used them before and I am suprised at how well they do work and they look really nice too. That saves us from using the porch lights and the pole light at night. It is very dark outside of my house at night so some sort of lights are needed. With the solar lights, the only cost is the initial amount to buy them and thats it so it is a good savings too.

There are a lot of different things that each of us can to do help the planet. It just takes a minute to stop and think about what we are doing before doing it. Like leaving a room and letting the light burn when its not needed. Turning the furnace down a degree or two as well as turning the air conditioning up a degree or two.

All it takes is a minute to think about what we can do to help out the only planet that we have and make sure that we do all that we can to make sure that it is healthy for future generations.

Your clothes dryer is a good energy sucker, most people do not think to check the exhaust hose every few months because a lot of lint gets trapped in there and becomes a fire hazard and burns more electricity.

You can also have your dryer maintained and cleaned out so that the unit breathes better and uses less energy.Things tend to back up and pile up in the dryers and cause all kinds of problems including shortening the life of the unit.

Hanging clothes out side to dry is another great way to help the environment as well. I do this when ever possible and of course I am always cleaning out the dryer as much as possible.

Dryers if really taken care of will last for many, many years. Though most people don't want to take that little bit of time to do these kinds of things and in the long run it ends up costing them in replacements.
