Default Save Green While Going Green

I am always on the look out for new ways to go green, because I want a healthier environment for future generations. Here are some interesting things I have recently learned.

#1. Energy- changing our thermostats just a few degrees will save on a lot of money and help the planet.

#2. Instead of using incandescent bulbs in your light fixtures, replace them with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) instead. Also when your not using appliances and electronics unplug them. Even though they are not running they are still burning electric.

#3. When doing laundry use cold water as much as possible. More than 80% of energy goes towards heating the water when machine washing them. Again save energy when drying clothes and hang them out to dry. This saves money and energy.

#4. When in the shower make sure that you take less time. Taking a shorter shower daily will reduce heating and water bills. Also replace your shower head with one which is rated as Low Flow. These help reduce the amount of water used with out the need for longer showers, there are also Faucet Aerators which are also low cost to help keep water pressure high with out using more water.

#5. If you live fairly close to work, consider taking a walk to work or even ride a bike for further distances. This will save on the fuel needed in your car, wear and tear and the environment all at the same time. If you live to far to do either of these, try getting together with co workers and carpool together for the same savings.

#6. Instead of buying bottled water and filling the landfill with more plastics, get yourself a filter for your tap to purify your drinking water.

These are just a few ideas to help everyone in the effort to go green. Every little bit we all do will help the the future of the planet as well as future generations.
