Default Plan now for a greener garden

Reguardless of where you are living I am sure that you are like everyone else, you are doing all that you can to save as much money as possible, while at the same time trying to help the enviroment for future generations. This includes a growing number of people who are wanting to begin growing their own vegetables as well as fruits. Though it has been said that more than 30 billion dollars per year are spent on gardening. Around four hunderd dollars per household. Though there really isnt a need for all of this. There are ways to have a beautiful, healthy garden with out all the costs. The first step in saving yourself a great deal of money is to propagate your seedlings rather than purchasing them at all. In the late winter start your vegetables and fruit seeds indoors, this way usally come the first of May you will have a ready to go garden. All you need inside your home to make this happen are your seeds, space, sunlight. Most start their seeds in egg cartons, or even yogert cups are great for starting your indoor garden and this will help keep them out of the landfills. If you are going to purchase seedling make sure that you purchase the smaller ones which will save you money. Even though they are smaller they will grow and give you the vegetables you are wanting. Completely new to the idea of gardening, well there are some really great sites online to help you out, as well as your local library. Your garden can produce a high yield of vegetables as well as fruits with good soil preperation, sunshine and of course water. Preparing the soil is easy. Till around 8 inches of soil, which then add about 3 inches of compost and mix it up well. Water and sunshine are of course needed, so study your plants to learn how much of each is needed. Rather than buying fertilizers, use compost instead. There are alot of great ways to start a compost pile in your own back yard, This will save you a great deal of money as well as helping to save the enviroment. Rather than purchasing harmful chemicals to rid your garden of pests, look to the internet to find several save yet effective ways to rid your garden of all unwanted pests, while at the same time attracting those which are helpful to gardens. When it is time to harvest those bountyful crops, look to drying, freezing, perserving or canning to make sure that your garden lasts all through those cold winter months. Knowing that you have these fruits and vegetables at home, will save you a great deal when grocery shopping. You may also want to look into growing your own herbs in addition to fruits and vegetables. This will also save you money.
Also use plants to help save on your utility bills. Plant deciduous trees on both the west and south sides of your home to add shade during those hot summer months. Planting tall evergreen hedges on both the east and north sides of your home will offer protection against those cold winter winds. Plants can save you a great deal of money per year, but they can also help your home to become a little bit greener!
