Default Old Clay Pipes

I am wondering if anyone knows if the old clay pipes which were used in homes a long ago if they cause any environmental issues?

The house that my other half is buying has these pipes for drainage and I know one is under the basement floor leading away from the drain. I know it is busted because the drain is always clogging up and I am wondering if we should dig this up and dispose of it or would it be alright to leave it as it is.

The way that we are going to be installing new drainage is actually the opposite direction of the orginal one. This is why I am wondering if we need to do the work needed to get it up out of there before it causes any more damage than it already has.

If anyone knows about these pipes please let me know and let me know what should be done with them.
