Default "New" Farming

Some enterprising farmers are offering to plant, weed, and then harvest a garden in clients own back yards. This service helps those who don't have time to actually garden, a chance to have a garden in their yard, fresh veggies on the table and there is no work involved.

Services such as this one are popping up all over the country, not only gardens in clients own yards, but also food services which enable people to cook a month's worth of food and freeze it for the following month.

Another trend, called cow-pooling or pork-pooling also is growing stronger. This is a service of a locally bred and grown cow, or pig is shared by several people in the community, butchered, frozen and then delivered to the client ready for the freezer.

These trends are called 'new', but I can remember when it was common for those with gardens to share the bounty with their friends and neighbors. It was also common for meat to be shared the same way. Some of the old ways seem to be coming back as popular, since our economy went south. It's not all bad........perhaps it will bring communities closer together, and that is a very good thing.

I agree that this is a good thing. It will bring folks closer together, like they used to be before all of our lives became so consumed with the hustle and bustle. It is a shame that it has taken the downfall of our economy to bring everyone back together.

Our family has never stopped sharing foods grown in the garden. We all have our own small gardens and together, we all share a very large one. We all help to plant, take care of and share in the fruits and veggies. We plant just about everything you can think of. This does help to keep our family close. This has been passed down generation to generation and will hopefully keep going.

Perhaps this slip in our economy will be good for people. It may teach them to share, to care, to help, and to foster friendships again.

I remember when I was young, people got together and there was always food brought. It didnt take a party or cookout back then to get people together and sharing. It was a way of life back then.

I know a lot of people who, when they are done with their meals, scrape the leftovers down the garbage disposal when there is so much that can be done with them.

Sharing and caring, thats what its all about.
