Default Keep A Cooler Home

Here are some tips to help keep your home cooler during the hot days we will soon be having.

1. Check around doors and windows for drafts. If drafts are detected then this is going to allow your cool air to escape and for hot air to enter. Seal these drafts up. This will keep your home cooler and help keep your energy bills lower.

2. On days when it isn't so hot outside, open windows and doors and use fans to help keep the home cool and give the air conditioner a rest. You can also take a bowl filled with ice and place it in the path of the wind from the fan to help the cooling process. Though make sure your bowl of ice is placed away from electrical outlets, is in an even larger bowl and far enough away from the fan in case the fan is knocked over.

3. Drape the windows with white curtains to reflect the heat and light of the sun. Also if possible install awnings over windows which get the most heat and light.

4. Cook outside to keep from heating up the home even more. Also hang laundry outside to dry this keeps you from needing to run the dryer using more electricity and from heating up the home even more.

5. Planting trees and shrubs to block the sun will shade the home and help keep the heat down.

I hope that these tips will be helpful in the process of helping to keep the heat out of your home this summer. Most of these tips are simple, easy to do yet will all make a difference in making sure that your homes stay comfortable in the heat of the season.

At this point I'm not so sure that we are going to have hot weather! I sure wish at least some warm weather would get here. Temps in fifties just don't do it for me! This winter has felt like five years long I think.

Those are great tips, thanks so much! I can't wait to be able to use some of them! lol

Your right it sure doesn't seem like warm weather is ever going to get here. Especially this week. It supposed to be in the 70's but it is going to do nothing but rain with thunderstorms.

Though I do believe that eventually the warm weather with the great sunshine will finally arrive and stick around for a little while.
