How to dispose of hard to recycle items.
One of the hardest things to get rid of when it comes to recycling is tires. What to do with them? When you buy new tires, question the sales person about disposal of your old ones. Every state but Delaware and Alaska are part of the effort to keep old tires out of the landfills.
If its a stove or fridge or freezer, contact your utility company, because if you are getting rid of an inefficient model, you may qualify for free removal plus a rebate. Plus, such stores such as Lowes, Sears, and Best Buy will haul away your old appliance.
When it comes to TVs, computers etc, just donate them. There are many places that will take these items whether they are working or not to refurbish them.
Carpet recycling is another one you should check with the store where you buy your new carpet. They may take the old carpet away for recycling.
These are just a few of the larger items that we have to get rid of from time to time and it needs to be done in a eco friendly way.
I have seen fridges, dryers, etc in our creek, which is very dangerous during heavy rain etc and can actually cause a flood that might not other wise have happened.
I have seen just recently a tv just lying next to the road, discarded by some lazy person that refused to drive the extra 4 miles to the landfill. No, the landfill isnt the place for it either, but would have been better than along the road.
