Default Homemade Fireplace Starter Logs.

You can make your own starter logs for your fireplace and hellp the environment at the same time. Use your old newspapers to make these logs.

Take a stack of newspapers and roll one of them up. Take the next and roll it around that one and so on until you have one of good size. Tie your roll with string.

You could put some dry potpouri in the middle to add a nice smell to the atmosphere of your room. After you have tied the roll together soak in water and then let dry.

Doing this will help it to stick together as it burns. Making your own will save you money and saves you from disposing of the newspapers. The landfill will also have less waste added to it.

I use paper towel rolls, you know, the center part that the paper towels are wrapped on. I roll up news paper and put inside the paper towel roll and they make excellent fire starters for my wood burner.

It is so much easier to get the smaller logs to start burning this way than using paper and pieces of cardboard to start the fire.

These are great ideas, and will help to keep our homes warm while lessening the waste in our landfills.

I don't currently have a woodburner, but my daughter does, and I'm sure she'll appreciate hearing these tips.

These would also be great to take on our camping trips - so often it's hard to find good, dry twigs to use to start a campfire, so using these could really come in handy.

We use to have a cottage in PA as I was growing up, and my mom use to do the rolling up of newspaper. I have forgotten all about that. Thank you so much for the reminder. I now have a fireplace and I am going to start to do that. I asked my neighbors to start to save all the newspaper for me.

Also, thank you flippinout, I am now saving all of my paper towel rolls as well. I am going to try that out to. Such great ideas, much cheaper then buying fire starters that comes with a lot of chemicals on it.
