Default Green Pet Care

To often in attempts to make our world a better place, we tend to forget about our other loved ones. These four legged furry family members are just as important in the efforts to go green as you or I am. Here is some very useful information to help your pet go green.
PET SHAMPOOS
Many pet shampoos have chemicals which are guaranteed to kill fleas but are not so healthy for your pet. Rather than using harsh shampoos on your pet, the use of an herbal shampoo works just as well if not better. Plain soap will also kill fleas on your pet if the soap is left on the fur and skin of your pet for around 10 minutes.
FLEA TREATMENT WHICH IS ALL NATURAL
PETA has a formula for killing fleas that actually works 100%. This formula does not expose your furry loved one to any harsh chemicals, and your pet will smell beautifully. This formula is very simple, just take two lemons and slice them up, boil some water (or very close to boiling water), and pour it over the lemons. Allow the lemons and water to sit over night. Then the next day strain out the lemons and add lemon liquid into a spray bottle. Spritz your pet daily and rub it into the coat well. To ensure better flea killings, also spray the pets bedding. The only down side of this formula is that often pets shy away from spray bottles or they plainly dont like them, but it is better to anger them a little to avoid all the scratching and biting of fleas.
CAT LITTER WHICH IS ORGANIC
Some of the chemicals found in your average cat littler, has actually caused the death of many loved pets. These chemicals interfere with the pets respiratory system as well as digestive systems. The use of an orgainic litter is going to be a better idea for your feline pet and the environment. There are litters which are plant based. These types of litters are available in clumping as well as dust free varieties. There are also litters which are wood based, though steer clear of those which are pine or cedar scented. These scents could possibly also cause health issues for your pet.
PET FOOD THATS ORGANIC
Many types of dog food contain corn, or corn by products, wheat gluten and meat by products. None of these ingredients good for your pet. Purchasing pet food that is totally organic is so much healthier for your furry loved on. You could also consider making your own pet food at home. If you make your own food for your pet, you can guarentee that what your pet is eating is totally healthy and green.
ORGANIC CAT FOOD
Of course cats can be extremely finicky. At least alot more than dogs are. Cats also have greater health needs than dogs. The best way to feed your cat in a green way is to purchase meat, specifically organ meat. Organ meat is right in nutrients and vitamins. Add in some kelp, glandular supplements, psyllium, dulse, and salmon oil, as well as vitamin E and D complexes. Grind together in an electric mixer and then freeze in serving size containers. Granted this all sounds like it is to much of a hassel, but really it isnt. The longest part is gathering up the ingredients, and your cat will love you for it.

You've made some great points here. I'm going to have to try the lemon idea to rid my dogs of fleas, as this is a problem for us every summer. I treat the lawn with an organic product, which definitely does help, but the little buggers still manage to make my dogs miserable in the summer.

I'm wondering if buying a bottle of lemon juice and adding some water would have the same effect as the whole lemon with water?

I wasnt able to get the store to purchase fresh lemons, though I did buy some lemon juice. I will be using this real soon on my two furry loved ones as fleas are also a problem for them. If it does work as well as the fresh lemons I will place an update here to let you know. I love the lemon idea for removing fleas because not only does it kill the fleas but it leaves the dogs smelling so nice, so I am hoping the lemon juice will work just as well.
