Lots of people are turning to "green" home building in order to cut back on high utility costs. The problem with the green building though is that right now, it costs more to do than the value it adds to the property.
That actually suprises me because as we are becoming a more Earth-friendly world conscienciously, one would think that we'd be willing to pay more for it. I guess maybe thats not true because of the weak economy. Hopefully it's not a lasting trend.
Quote:
Appraisals for newly built green homes do not fully reflect the cost of green technology, and the lower appraisal values mean buyers often cannot get the full financing they need from banks.
That discourages developers from using green technology, in turn diminishing the market for more green products.

I am sure I'd be willing to see a higher price in a home that has had green products invested in it. I guess it's just a matter of having the lenders and more buyers in general to see it that way.
