Default "Green" Candles

I love having flickering candlelight in my home, especially those that are aromatic. I recently read an article stating how polluting a paraffin candle can be, perhaps harming our family members and the environment by putting off soot that we may not see.

This made me curious as to how I could find environmentally safe candles to use in my home. Sharing my findings here with all of you seemed to be the next logical step to my research.

Soy candles are the preference of many of the candle-makers that I found. Those people who make their own candles say that they use the soy wax because the wax is made from natural substances which is good for the environment. Soy candles are made from a renewable source, and so helps to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels.

Cleaning up wax that's been spilled from a soy candle is also easy to do, as soy candles are water soluble. The spills clean up easily with hot, soapy water.

If you can't find soy candles in your area, or like to make your own candles, they are inexpensive to make. While checking online prices, I found soy wax as inexpensive as $1.75 per pound, and 10 pounds for only $12.95. There are also many scents that can be used to make the kind of candles that we all love to have in our homes.

Making these candles would be cheaper than purchasing them at a store! I love to burn candles, they make the house feel so cozy and smell good too. I am going to try to do this. Thanks.

I love making candles. Though I did not realize that I could be harming the enviroment. Plus the cost to make my own was rather high. Though the idea of using soy wax to create wonderful candles for my home sounds like a great deal to me. Seeing as how I would be saving alot of money as well as the enviroment.
Thanks for this information Missmannors.

Candle making is great fun. I like to teach the little ones how to do this. I am having a problem finding candle wicks however. I have looked everywhere for them. Then I found a way to make them but now I can't find a store that carries Boric Acid. I just can't win. I know that if you go to the pharmacy they will order some but this means you have to wait. Oh well in the end it is all worth it.

If you'd like to make the soy wax candles badmomma, you can find the soy wax online as well as candle wicks. There are wicks available that are pre-tabbed or on spools. Ordering both online together, should also bring them to your door at the same time.

Of course there are many other candle making supplies to be found online also - frangrances, jars, molds, dyes, etc. Anything and everything that you need or would want as far as candle-making is there at your fingertips! Good luck in your candle making endeavors.
