Default Going Green Tips for Winter

Just because the snow has started to fall, it doesnt mean that our efforts for a greener living come to an end. Going green is a year round effort and our planet thanks us for all of our efforts we take. Here are some great tips for helping yourself and your family green in those winter months.
We all know that saving as much energy as possible is a good thing. This also means of course durning the winter. We can all do this by making sure that our windows and of course doors all have good seals. Good seals prevents a great deal of lost heat in the home and will cut down on the amount of energy it takes to keep your home comfortable. This also saves you a great deal on your heating bills as well.
Rather than turning up your thermostat in the winter, add another layer of clothing to keep yourself more comfortable. The use of slippers, sweaters or thermal clothing is alot cheaper than adjusting your thermostat.
Purchase de-icers for your driveway, walkways, steps and porches which are non-toxic. This will not only keep your home safe from ice, but it will also help protect your pets and wildlife. The rock salt that most use to keep ice away from their homes contains an ingredient called cyanide. As we all know cyanide is a poison. If you need a bit more traction in your driveway try using some plain sand. This works nicely.
Some great workouts in the winter try skiing, sledding and snowshoeing. These are all very nice workouts and they do not require either fuel or electricity.
Because there is less sunlight in the winter, this means the lights tend to be on inside the home more. Replacing your bulbs with fluorescent ones are more energy efficient and they last a good deal longer than regular ones.
