Re: Going Green Ideas to share
I rinse out several empty gallon milk jugs and fill them with water to be used in case of a water break. I usually keep 7 or 8 of these jugs of water for use for cooking, watering our animals, and making coffee. Also to water house plants in case they are due to be watered when the water goes off. Theres nothing worse than having no water.
I also keep several jugs of water under the bathroom sink for people to use to wash with in case the water goes off. These may seem like small things to do, but around here, very few milk jugs are disposed of unless they develop a hole.
I keep quite a few empty jars with lids. They are great for storing left over gravy or soup in the fridge, for using as candle holders if the electricity goes off, and for using to make bath salts as Christmas gifts.
The metal trays that some foods come in can be recycled as most are made of aluminum.
Used aluminum foil here is washed and rinsed well and used to cover the bottoms of the pots I have house plants in to prevent the water getting onto the wood in my bay window.
Gallon sized freezer bags are washed, rinsed, and dried and used to store small game pieces or even nuts and bolts in.
Old newspapers can be donated to the local animal shelter. Or used to start a fire in your woodburner or fireplace. To make a fire log, roll up newspaper and insert it into the tube that paper towels came on.
