Default Going Green Ideas to share

Let us all know what you have been doing to help the planet. Any ideas you have come up with that will help the rest of us? Please list them here so that all can benefit from your ideas.
1. I have started looking closer at the items we normally just toss out with the trash and try to think of new ways to use the items.
2. I have taken milk jugs and filled them with dirt to help hold down the tarp we have covering some items we have outside.
3. I am also using house hold items to keep fleas and other pests out of my home rather than spraying alot of unwanted chemicals. I dont even use flea drops on my dogs anymore. I have found that a lemon juice and water mixture works just as well. Though they have to be sprayed daily, its well worth the safety and health of my furry kids.
4. I have also started making my own cleaning products, rather than purchasing them.

Any ideas you may have to help us all to do more to go green are always appreciated.

I rinse out several empty gallon milk jugs and fill them with water to be used in case of a water break. I usually keep 7 or 8 of these jugs of water for use for cooking, watering our animals, and making coffee. Also to water house plants in case they are due to be watered when the water goes off. Theres nothing worse than having no water.

I also keep several jugs of water under the bathroom sink for people to use to wash with in case the water goes off. These may seem like small things to do, but around here, very few milk jugs are disposed of unless they develop a hole.

I keep quite a few empty jars with lids. They are great for storing left over gravy or soup in the fridge, for using as candle holders if the electricity goes off, and for using to make bath salts as Christmas gifts.

The metal trays that some foods come in can be recycled as most are made of aluminum.

Used aluminum foil here is washed and rinsed well and used to cover the bottoms of the pots I have house plants in to prevent the water getting onto the wood in my bay window.

Gallon sized freezer bags are washed, rinsed, and dried and used to store small game pieces or even nuts and bolts in.

Old newspapers can be donated to the local animal shelter. Or used to start a fire in your woodburner or fireplace. To make a fire log, roll up newspaper and insert it into the tube that paper towels came on.

These really are some great ideas Flippinout. Thank you so much for sharing them. I do also keep a few jugs of water around the house for a variety of uses. I know what it is like to not have water.
I have to admit that I never really though of saving jars with lids to store soups and gravy's in, but I sure will be saving them now. I do make alot of soups here especially in the winter. This will make it real nice and easy to store it. Another plus to that idea is that I can put just enough in the jars for a single serving. I really like that idea. Thank you for sharing!!!
