Wink Federal Building Going Green

Recently Samuel W. Boadman accepted the Energy Star plaque for the Forrestal building.

An Energy Star distinction is only awarded to those buildings which score a 75 or higher on a scale of 1-100, for it's performance in saving energy. These buildings must have low usages in Gas,Steam and of course Electricity. They must also have good indoor air quality and temperatures.

This Forrestal building is now rated in the top 25% for energy savings, after they recieved a score of 88 on the performance scale.

The Forrestal building is only the second Federal building which is both owned and operated to earn the Energy Star distinction.

Some of the improvements that the Forrestal building have made are: Reduced the amount of computer equipment - which reduced the need for so much air conditioning, They installed automated heating and cooling - using the optimal settings, They are also now using energy efficent fluoresent light bulbs, and have switched to cars which use an alternative fuel.

The Forrestal building is using 35% less energy than most other office buildings. This saves the tax payers thousands of dollars a year, also because of their improvements they have lessened the amount of carbon diozide emissions by over 20 million pounds per year!

I thought that this was pretty impressive, so I just had to share it with you.

Default Federal Building Going Green

Thank you for sharing this one. It's very impressive that a federal building has done such a great job in going green. I'm more impressed by the fact that our tax dollars aren't being wasted so much in this building. If all federal buildings would put these measures in place, we could perhaps put a small dent in the budget deficit!!

Wink Federal Building Going Green

The actual goal is for all Federal building to go green, Though this will take some time. Once this is completed, I imagine that it would put a little dent in deficit. It will take years to complete this but when it is finished its going to be very helpful to tax payers and the planet. Now if all other office buildings would do the same...
