Does anyone here have and use a compost pile for gardens, plants and flowers?

I have heard that having a composting pile is a great way to fertilize gardens and so on with out extra expenses and its a good way to use up things like lawn clipping, some kitchen left overs and some other things.

Yet I haven't started anything like that because I have also there is a terrible stench that is generated from a compost pile and that is something that I don't think I want to deal with nor is it something my neighbors would appreciate either.

If anyone has a compost pile are there any ways to deal with the smells to keep it from reeking to the point where there are complaints?

I might start one if there is. I have put a good amount of money into my gardens to make sure that they grow and grow well. Having a compost pile would save me money in the long run and that is always a good thing.
