Something else great for the garden or compost pile is egg shells. Simply dump your egg shells onto the garden or compost and they will do the rest. They provide a nice boost of calcium to the plants in the garden or the compost dirt for the plants. They are also great for deterring pests in the garden. The sharp edges of the shells can be deadly to creepy crawlers such as slugs and cutworms.

Egg shells can be used to provide a valuable source of calcium for growing plants and to aid in deterring pests without the use of chemicals in a vegetable garden.

If you have hard boiled eggs, don't dump the water down the drain when you are done. Allow it to cool and then you can use it to water you garden or your houseplants. Lots of nutrients get cooked out of the shells when they are boiling so the water ends up full of good stuff for plants.
Always be careful though when you water you plants to avoid getting the leaves wet if you can. Wetting the leaves can promote disease and you don't want that.
