Smile Buy Pre-owned for Remodeling Projects

Often when we need to remodel, we are only thinking of what we "want", but perhaps it would be a better idea to ask ourselves what we actually need. Not only ask what we need, but also what the home needs. Trying to make an older home into a modern home can be a mistake, especially when we intend to flip the home. After all, part of what we saw in the home in the first place, may have been it's old-style charm, and this should be what we endeavor to enhance.

We can save a lot of money on the costs of remodeling, and also "go green" by purchasing things that have been pre-owned. Sinks, bathtubs, lighting fixtures, cabinetry, and countertops, just to name a few, can all be found much more inexpensively just by looking in the right places.

Each time we purchase new things, we're taking from the earth, which means that the old things we throw away go to some landfill and contribute to the pollution we are trying to eliminate. Even if we "recycle" those items, it takes some of our trees, or other health-sustaining environment away, when we purchase new ones that are made using our valuable resources.

We need to begin to choose different avenues not only for our environment, but also for our wallets. This is imperative in this economy we are now facing. Buying used is still buying, which is helpful for the economy, we're just spending a bit less, which I'm sure we'll end up spending on other needed items.

There are many businesses around the country which sell these used items. Many times you can find one-of-a-kind fixtures for your remodeling projects that will enhance the home, for just pennies on the dollar.

When planning your next remodeling project, talk to your contractor about visiting one of these used building material businesses to find the elements you need for the project. This will insure that you get the look that you want, and he can tell you what will, or will not work for the project.

Another thing to consider when doing a kitchen remodel, is whether simply opening up some of the cabinetry will give you the look that you want in the room. Removing some of the doors on the cabinets will allow you to display some of your favorite dishes and glassware and make the space seem more open and airy. This is a simple fix and takes only a bit of sanding and staining or some paint to enhance the kitchen's look.

I think that is a wonderful idea you have there. I have seen people reclaim lumber and we ourselves do it. If we tear something down we reuse what we have from that teardown.

I have also seen people go to farmers who have collapsed barns and get lumber from them for cleaning it up. It helps both parties and saves numerous trees.

I think it's a shame that we waste so much these days. We need to think as our grandparents did and re-use as much as we can, this could do much in the way of turning around the damage that's been done to our environment.

This not only helps the environment, but also our wallets -and that's always a good idea.

The old saying "waste not, want not" should be in our minds these days.
