During those dreary months of winter, one thing that is commonly missed is the color of flowers. It doesnt have to be this way though. By planting winter shrubs and flowers you can have a colorful yard and garden even in the winter season. Here are a few ideas that you might want to look into planting to keep some color around you all year long.
Shrubs
1.Witch Hazel
2. Winter Jasmine
3. Japanese Pieris or Peris Japonica
4. Helleborus
5. Glory-of-the-Snow or Chinodoxa Lucillae
Of course some plants will do better than others in your area, so it is best to research those that will do well in your area.
By seeing to it that you have some color in your yard and garden through out the winter months can really help keep the winter blues away. It is not only helpful to you and your family but it will also help to brighten up the winter for all those who pass your home and those living close to you.
Thanks for this reminder, homealone. I've been meaning to check out some plants for winter color, and haven't done so as of yet. I will do some research now and make a reminder note to get to the nursery soon!!
I am just glad this post was helpful. I know that in the winter I get depressed because there just isnt much color outside, I mean there is alot of white but that just isnt enough. This is why I posted this to hopefully help brighten it up for a few people. Let me know how your winter plants turn out ok?
