Winter landscapes add beauty
Most often during the year we dont think about the winter. This is because mostly we tend to dread all that cold and snow. Though with just a bit of preparation in the spring and summer, we can have some beautiful landscapes that will last through the winter. Here is a list of plants that will help make that winter landscape.
Plume grass, Christmas holly shrubs, viking black chokeberry, bayberry, yew shrubs, canadian hemlocks, cranberry bush viburnum, birch trees, red twig dogwood and winterberry holly. All of these plants are great for add some stunning beauty to that drab winter scenery. Another great choice is the evergreen holly. The evergreen holly offers a year round foliage which is eye catching and also offers bright red berries which attract wild birds. Though living in the Northern climate the evergreen does not do so well. Though for that type of climate you may want to look into the china holly or the inkberry holly. These plants tend to do better in the colder climates. The red osier dogwood is another hardy plant. The red osier dogwood has a flower of white blooms in May, which is then followed by a white fruit. Though the reason I am listing this plant is due to the bark. The bark ranges from a burgundy to a red color. This color really stands out during those winter months.
Tall perennial grass is another great idea for creating a beautiful winter landscape. Perennial grass add a lot of charm to the harshness of winter. It is also known as ornamental grasses.
By planting items which add beauty to your landscape while at the same time offer food and shelter to the birds in the winter is a great idea. You and your neighborhood will benefit from time you can spend watching the bird while at play. Plus the birds will have a nice food source for the winter months when they need it the most.
So when planning your summer plants plan for creating a beautiful landscape for the winter and take the time to find items that are beneficial to wildlife as well as to you, your home and to your neighborhood.
With just a bit of research and planning you will be able to create some truly stunning landscapes for your home that will continue to be stunning all winter long.
