Default Winter colors for small areas

Previously I have posted about planting trees, shrubs and other plants in the yard of your home to help keep some color in view during the dreary winter months. Though If you are like me you dont have the yard space to plant things like trees and shrubs. I have a very small yard to work with, yet I want to have some color around me to help ward of that depressing white of snow. This is how I plan on making my yard warm and inviting as possible with out using alot of space. Using the couple of trees that I do have in my yard I will be hanging some bird feeders. These will of course attract wild birds for the entertainment of watching them eat and play. Though I wanted to plant some plume grass, as this will grow higher than the snow and give me some green color, I will have to wait til next year for this plan.
The main plan I have for this winter is to purchase several Poinsettias. These come usally in brightly wrapped pots and do well in the cold. Though in my area we get some really cold temps so nightly I will cover them with a basket and some plastic to help protect them. Placing these Poinsettias on my steps and front pourch will ensure me that I will have at least some color this winter.
Another idea I had was to add some solar lights outside, but I sadfully really dont have any place to put them, that they would be of real use. Though if you have a walk way or drive way this would be a great idea for adding some color.
On the table I have outside on my pourch I have taken a basket and weaved several colorful ribbins into it and filled it with pine cones. Then I added a nice ribben to it. Instead of weaving ribbon through the basket you can also paint it a variety of colors to help bring cheery color to your home.
By adding color to your home you not only help yourself, but you also help your neighborhood and all those who pass you by. Beautiful colors in those winter months really help lift the spirits of all.
