Default Taking care of your driveway.

We live in a small town in a rural area and most of the driveways in our area are composed of gravel. Since we use gravel, it has to be replaced every few years because of the fact that the gravel tends to sink into the earth.

It had gotten to the place where we had standing water and mud in our driveway and so the situation had to be addressed.

Since it is a shared driveway, the guy that owns the house across the driveway and I shared the expense and had the driveway regraveled with smaller limestone and once that settles well, we will have number 8 put on top of this gravel which will give the newer gravel a good base.

By sharing the expense, neither one of us had to pay a lot to have this job done and the guys did the spreading which was minimal since the truck driver knew how to put the gravel down to save a lot of human labor.

Having had the driveway redone not only saves on wet feet, mud tracked into the house, but makes both properties look so much better.

Further plans for this project include letting this gravel settle completely then putting smaller on top and once it has settled, the neighbor wants to put in a concrete driveway.

I dont know for sure that that will work because of the fact that we are in a low lying area and water tends to just lie in areas before evaporating or going into the earth and since my garage is lower than the driveway, the water would end up in the garage unless drains were installed.

The problem is with the drains. Since we are so low lying, where would the water go? These are areas that need to be addressed before the rest of the work is done.

i have to agree with u on the taking care of the driveway as well has everything else u do around the house inside as well as out the upkeep is so important whether u have asphalt or gravel making sure that u have proper care is important if some one comes onto ur property and gets hurt or their car gets damaged because of in proper care can almost cost u more then the repair its self

In answer to the first part of your question, there are many different types of grass seed. For instance, there is high traffic grass seed in which the grass itself can stand up to a high volume of foot traffic.

There are grasses for high sunlight, grasses for shaded areas plus there are different kinds of grass seed. For instance, Kentucky Blue grass etc.

I used a grass seed I bought at Lowes for a shaded area of my home and the seeds took almost overnight and grew prolificly and is doing well. Plus it is a thick grass and looks very good in the area it was planted in.

If you have any questions about the type of grass seed you need, go to Lowes and ask an associate there. They will tell you exactly what you need to buy.

In answer to your question, sod stands about 3 inches above ground level and is used mostly in the yards of newly built homes.

If you are just trying to repair a few spots in your own yard or along a wall etc then what you need to use is grass seed.
