Default Stop! Don't Dig Until You Know It's Safe!

Landscaping is a very important part of flipping a house, making it more appealing to potential buyers. Before you begin though, you need to beware of any electrical lines that may be running through the ground. Many underground wires are only placed 18 inches deep! It would be very easy to start digging and put yourself in a lot of harm, possibly even death if you do not know where they are located. A simple phone call may very well save your life!

Quote:
One easy phone call to 811 starts the process to get your underground utility lines marked for free. When you call 811 from anywhere in the country, your call will be routed to your local One Call Center. Local One Call Center operators will ask you for the location of your digging job and route your call to affected utility companies. Your utility companies will then send a professional locator to your location to mark your lines within a few days. Once your underground lines have been marked, you will know the approximate location of your utility lines and can dig safely, because knowing what's below protects you and your family.
Always call 811 before starting any digging project!
811

Many of us get in such a rush, we tend to forget about things like this. Do yourself a favor and make the phone call before you start digging for any reason. Professionals will come to the home at no cost to you and mark any underground lines. It is well worth it.

Call Before You Dig

Default Stop! Don't Dig Until You Know It's Safe!

Great post, thanks for doing this one. We do often dig without thinking, and in my area there are a lot of underground electrical wires, which can really be a hazard when you want to plant something large. I didn't even know that there was a specific number to call to have all utilities checked, either. I have always called each one individually. This is very good to know.

Default Stop! Dont dig until you know its safe!

I knew there was a central number you could call and that they could inform you of what all was underground and where it is located, but I didnt know what the number was.

Thank you for posting this. It is invaluable information, especially for people in large towns.

Wink Stop! Dont dig until you know its safe!

This is information that everyone should know and keep handy for those summer time gardens and lawn makeovers. Thanks for giving us all this important information. I am glad to know that there is just one number to call to get the underground lines marked. Of course the no cost is also a plus . This is one number I will keep for future needs.
