Default Rainbarrels

The new rain barrels cost anywhere from $39.95 to $69.95 a piece but the savings in water usage will pay for it no time at all. Plus you have chlorine free, oxgenated water to use on your garden or for house plants.

Im not talking about your "grandmas" rainbarrel here, Im talking about the new plastic rainbarrel, complete with screened top to prevent mosquitos using it as a breeding ground.

These new rain barrels have an overflow valve, a spigot at the bottom to attach your garden hose too, and a spigot a little higher up from which you can fill watering cans or buckets.

Here are a few hints when it comes to watering your plants.

Always water early in the morning, plants benefit best by early watering.

Mulch around plants to help the ground retain the moisture longer.

Another plus to the water in your rain barrel is that it is "soft water" and great for washing your hair.

So having a rain barrel has many benefits and in areas where there isnt a lot of rain, it can be a means of keeping your flower and vegetable gardens happy and healthy.
