Default Queens Tears

I was just given a new plant by a friend, its called Queens Tears and is a member of the bromeliad family and native to Brazil.

When this plant flowers, it is breathtaking as it gets big red bloom looking affairs at the top of the plant, and from these, blue and white flowers hang down around the plant.

Propagation of these plants is easy, They get new growth, called "pups" around the plant and they can be taken off and transplanted into regular potting soil. Being sure to have a pot that drains well.

You can force blooms on this plant by placing it in a plastic bag with a ripe apple for seven to ten days, then the plant will bloom within one to two months. It is the ethylene gas from the apple that makes Queens Tears bloom.

Be sure to mist this plant, and let a little water run down into the center of the plant.

These plants can withstand temperatures down to 22F for short periods, and can survive short periods of neglect.

They make a beautiful indoor plant and can be made to bloom in the winter adding to your enjoyment. You can also put one in the center of a tree in a little soil to add to a beautiful display in your garden or yard.

Queens Tears likes shade to bright indirect sunshine.

This plant would make a beautiful addition to any garden, and would be great as a houseplant in the winter with its beautiful blooms.

That is a beautiful plant thank you for sharing the picture with us.
I will have to see if any of the local florist can find this plant for me.

I love hearty plants such as the one you have just featured. It would
be beautiful in bloom and out of bloom.
