Default Planting zones.

When one is looking at plants for their gardens they need to know if they are suitable for the area that they live in.

I recieve catalogs with the various trees, flowers and vegetables in them that you can order.

Each has a zone listing so that you know if you can use them. My issue is that my most recent catalog included the zone information but not the map.

I found this one and hopefully you will all find it as usefull as I have. Good luck and happy growing.

Thank you for posting this map. Theres nothing worse than not knowing before you buy those plants and then you end up losing them because they werent meant for the zone you live in.

Where I live in SE Ohio, we cant plant our gardens until after May 18th when danger of frost has passed but yet, 84 miles south of us, in Marietta, their season for planting is almost a full month ahead of ours.

One wouldnt think that there would be that much of a difference in growing seasons in under a hundred miles of where you live, but there is.

You can use some plants that are made for longer growing seasons, but the extra work involved to protect them is just not, in my opinion, worth it.

Thanks for that posts. Most to not know what zone they are in. When you are planting this is so very important.

I am on East Coast and I know my zone. now everyone can see what zone they are in.

Thats a great map with the color coding. There is no guessing as to what zone you are in. And I agree with you flippinout, having to continuously cover the vegetation to protect it from frost is a real pain in the keester! I'd rather just wait a little longer to do my planting so I don't have to worry about it.
