Default Plant Cacti for Home Security

Planting a variety of Cacti around your home, especially under windows is a great way to not only decorate the exterior of your home but to also help prevent thieves from gaining access to your home.

The sharp points of the cacti make it extremely difficult for someone to gain access to a window on the lower floor of a home.

This can also help to lower home owners insurance as well, depending on the insurance company you are using.

There are other plants as well that can be planted under the windows that will also prevent easy access to windows.

I have seen several homes where bushes have been planted under windows for this reason. However bushes seem to more or less only hide those which are attempting to gain access to someones home. Which is why if this is something that you are wanting to do, should choose a plant which has thorns or spikes like the cacti do.

So when planning on doing something like this to help protect your home, look into these types of plants that will do well in the area that you live in as well as if they need shade or sun.

For someone to think of plants as a deterrent for burglars is fantastic, and cacti sure would work. There are some cacti that have very large spines that can do a lot of damage and cause very painful injuries.

There are a lot of cacti that can be used in our area because one has to keep in mind that while desert temperatures are very high in the daytime, they do drop to around freezing at night in some places. So using cacti wouldnt be a problem. Just be sure to check with your local nursery to be sure of which ones would have the best survival rate in your area.

That is one of the reasons that I love cacti because they are great plants to have, offer security and require very little work to keep them alive.

Some of them even bloom which would add a bit of color here and there where they are planted. I don't have any that bloom but I do have a few in my yard.

They are planted under windows which are close to the ground. I think that this year I am going to get a few that bloom, just to makes things more pretty.

Another reason I love cacti is because they are not really all that expensive to purchase. I think the most I paid for one of mine was like $10.00 but that thing is rather large. It grew up taller than I expected, yet still looks great.

In my garden below my windows I have planted cacti and rose bushes. These plants are both thorny or have spines and offer protection. It helps to give homeowners a little bit more peace of mind these days.

Wow I must say that I have never, ever thought about that before but that really is a great idea! I have been pricked by a cacti a time or two and it is anything but pleasant. It hurts like the dickens! What a great idea. I am going to pass this on! Thanks!
