Default Picking the right type of Tulips

Everybody loves Tulips, most homeowners grow at least a few of these attractive, easy to grow bulbs.

There are early, mid, and late blooming varieties of tulips, make sure you consider this when planting the bulbs.

They come in a large variety of colors, including white, yellow, pink, red, black, purple , orange, bi colors, and even more.

A tip after blooming, let the plant continue to grow until it dies off. During the post bloom period, the plant is sending energy to the bulb to store for use next spring.

You are so right, there are so many different colors when it comes to tulips and to have a wide array of them in your flower bed can really brighten it up.

My all time favorite is the deep purple ones.

These coupled with the purple and white ones above are quite lovely.

There are alot of different kinds of Tulips to choose from,I suggest that you go online and look them up and choose which ones are best for your area.Once you have decided which kind of Tulips that you want to plant, you should prepare your soil, you should do this in late fall, turn the soil and add nutreint rich compost to it.

Next you should prepare holes where you want your flowers to be and then put in your bulbs.

Start planting the bulbs from the back of the garden and work your way to the front. Plant them about 4 inches apart at 6 inches below the surface of the soil. Make sure you put the bulb in the soil correctly. The rounded side of the bulb is the root side and this should be the side that points down in the soil. The pointed side should be facing up as this is the part that will open in the spring and flower. Fill the hole with soil and water. Then cover the bulbs with mulch to protect them from the winter elements. Finally, add a barrier of diatomaceous earth or lava rock around your tulips to discourage slugs or snails from eating the bulbs.
In the spring, remove the mulch to allow the plants to grow if foliage hasn't already started to sprout. Only water the bulbs when the temperature is above freezing and once leaves have appeared.
