Default October gardening tips.

This is the time of year that we are preparing our homes for winter.
We also need to prepare our yards. You can plant next years bulbs
up until the point that the ground freezes. You need to also prepare
your perenialls for winter.

You can shop for trees and shrubs and place them so they get a
strong root system started over the winter months. You should
also take your hardwood cuttings now.

Now is also a good time to seed those bald spots in your lawn or
even the entire lawn. I don't really care for winter but with all of
these tips I will have an especially exciting spring.

I also suggest placing bird feeders or squirrel feeders now and getting
the supplies you need to keep them over the winter months. Make sure
that they will be placed where they are easily accessible to you. I don't
want anyone to fall and we don't want to start feeding and then stop
suddenly either.

Default Re: October gardening tips.

I love placing food and water out for the birds and squirrels, in the winter months. These animals struggle a great deal to find enough food to build up body fat to keep them warm. Some say these animals are a pest, but I personally find them to be a great source of amusement. To me there is nothing like watching these animals eating and drinking outside, when you are stuck inside during those awefully cold months, and the animals also appreciate not starving. Though you have to make sure your feeders and such are in an area where free running cats and such can not hurt them.
