Default Landscaping In The Winter

There aren't too many flowers that will bloom in the winter when the weather turns cold. Landscapes tend to turn to brown and gray, boring in fact. There are things you can do to add a little pop to your winter landscape.

Shrubs can look great all year round as long as you maintain them properly. Give them the nutrients they need and keep them trimmed. You can also add Redstem dogwoods for a little added color. Winter honeysuckle will bloom with white flowers during the cold weather. Add small fences or trellis's behind these for that little extra something.

Keep in mind though that you are probably not going to want to sit outside in the cold to enjoy your landscape in the winter. Place these in an area where you may enjoy them from a window but also where they look good from the street. You will be the envy of the neighborhood.

It's nice to have a bit of color in your yard during the cold months. I think that one of the best things to help a yard look good in the winter is simply to keep it cleaned up. So many times I see yards that have trash stuck to fence lines, and bushes - just going into the yard and cleaning this up helps to make it look better.
