Its time to clean up your yard and gardens.
Its time to get out there and clean up your yard, your flower beds and gardens.
Cleaning up the yard to prepare for summer can be a great home improvement at a minimum cost.
Now is the time to split and replant your irises and hostases. You can also split your day lilies and replant them now too.
Now is when you can also cut off the old growth from your plants as they start to look shabby to let them prepare for new growth and to make your yard and gardens look much neater.
Bag or burn any plants that have had insect or disease damage and most of the rest of the plants can be added to the compost pile for use later on.
Dump all plant containers and pots used for outside plants and wash them in hot soapy water to which bleach has been added. Be sure that containers and pots are thoroughly dry before storing them away for the winter.
Dont drain your pond as doing so can cause it to split and crack, instead clean it once more and replace the water in it. Also, you dont need to bring your fish in for the winter, they will do just fine where they are.
Be sure to do one last weeding, it can cut down on the amount of weeds that grow next spring and add to the neater look of your gardens and flower beds.
Take all cuttings now so that they will successfully "winter" indoors.
When the temperature falls to 60 degrees, you can plant the bulbs that will bloom in the spring.
Perennial seeds can be taken now and planted within the next several weeks.
Clean and sharpen all tools and store them for use next spring.
