Default Is your deck ready for winter?

Nows the time to take care of that deck. This is the time of the year that I give the deck a good cleaning and redo the deck floor and steps with the water repellant deck stain to be sure the wood is protected from the weather.

I also clean up all stands that my plants have been on and wash all flower pots that have been used with hot soapy water to which bleach has been added so that the posts can safely be used for planting new flowers in next spring.

Using a water repellant on your deck floor and steps is imperative to protect the wood because if it isnt properly protected, the wood can crack and warp.

There are many tasks to be performed around your home now that will help it all weather well during the many ice and snow storms that will be coming your way this winter.

This is the time I also clean all outside windows, spray the dust off of the siding and make sure that all windows are properly caulked etc.

This is also a good time to check any heat tapes etc that you have to protect you water lines from freezing off. There is nothing worse than having to fix broken water lines in the winter.

I just am installing a timber-tech deck. You would be amazed - it looks just like wood. Practically carefree too.

Great winterizing tips above!

That will make a great deck for you. Those are almost maintainance free from what I understand. And deck maintainance when you have a wooden one like mine can take a lot of time every couple of years to restain etc.
