Default Impatiens love those shady areas.

Need a flower that loves the shade? Well you are talking impatiens. Impatiens can instantly add splashes of color to any shady area, even under trees. And they will bring in the butterflies and humming birds with their nectar rich flowers.

Impatiens bloom all summer long for lasting splashes of color, and can be put in flower beds, hanging baskets, containers of any kind and are just an all around riot of color.

Impatiens come in red, pink, orange, yellow, purple and white. They range from 1 inch to two and a half inches across each flower, depending of course on the variety of impatien that they are.

There are over 850 varieties of impatiens to choose from. Most are found in Asia and Africa while we here in North America have five varieties.

Commonly found varieties here are Busy Lizzie, Patient Lucy, Sultana or Patience Plant and can add much color to an otherwise drab area.

Impatiens sound like a perfect flower for around my home. Most of my very small yard is pretty much all in the shade. I am not much of a gardner, but I am slowly learning and hopefully come next year I will have will have some beautiful flowers in my yard.

I really love impatiens, but unfortunately there is not enough shade in my yard to grow them.

I'm hoping to add some shade trees to my yard soon, which will then take care of the lack of shade and then, you can bet that I'll be planting some impatiens around the base of my shade trees.
