I have a serious weed problem every year. I hoe up all of my flower beds and pull and pull weeds but to no avail. They just grow to fast for me. They have overtaken my gardens to the point that the flowers die.
I don't know what to do. At what point do I add mulch or weed killer. If any one has any suggestions please help me. I can't take it anymore. My vegatable garden was the same way. I hoed and pulled weeds till I had blisters.
A friend of mine also had this same problem in her flower and veggie garden. What she did was remove the top layer of soil and replace it with bagged soil. Then she added mulch all around her plants and veggies. She still got a weed here and ther but she was able to easily deal with them, with out alot of hassle.
This is just one of the many ways you can deal with this type of problem. There are several suggestions online of what you can try to do to solve your weed problem.
Hope this helps you and your gardens.
In your vegi garden install a drip irrigation system then you can cover the entire ground with black plastic. the weeds cant get through and the plants still get water.
Or you can cover the ground then cuy out holes and use old nurrsery pots like 8 or 10" accross cut out the bottoms dig them into the ground and fill them with a potting soil and dirt mix.
I saw farms in easterd MD that did these so I tried and it hepls a lot.
In the spring I will post pics of mine if I remember or someone reminds me.

Thanks guys I will try some of those ideas. I really hate to have to pull them. The blisters are just more than I can take. I have considered the plastic before but my vegatable garden is usually pretty large.
I will try it around the smaller plants like the tomatoes and peppers. The corn isn't a big deal as they get taller than the weeds anyway. I really appreciate all of the help and wish I could send you all some fresh veggies in return.
This is usually done in the fall, before the cold gets too bad, but if you can stand to be out in the cold for a little while, you may try to simply go to your garden now and lay several thicknesses of cardboard or newspapers over it. Then wet it down (or simply lay the cardboard or newspapers out just before rain or snow is predicted). When spring comes, just till the paper into the garden soil. You will be surprised at how few weeds you will have to pull next growing season.

My dad did that one year when I was a kid. Dont remember how it worked.
Another variation on the plastic is to use a roll about 12" wide or so and just cover the raised rows. I use 'wire tees' cut out of extra rabbit type fence to pin it down.
