Default Get your Yard ready for spring

Spring is just around the corner, and now we are starting to have some nice days that are warm enough to do some of our yard work.

It is to early to plant flowers and vegetables in most regions there are things you can do to get your yard ready for spring.

1.Clean up all of those leaves that have collected in your yard over the winter.

2.Clean out those flower beds and garden areas.

3.Work on your garden areas.

4.Trim your bushes and shrubs now.

5.Research flowers and vegetables you are wanting to plant in the spring.

Speaking of getting ready for spring, I have spent the last 3 warm, sunny days outside clearing out all of my flower beds and getting my yard cleaned up.

I also use this time before planting season to wash all my used flower pots in hot soapy bleach water and rinse them well for the planting of starter plants. Washing those used pots this way kills any molds, or bugs or eggs that may have attached themselves to the pots and will prevent contamination of new plants.

Now when planting time comes, I will be totally ready. And by the way, my irises are already about 3 inches high. I am surprised that they are coming up so early.

I have spent the past three days picking up limbs and raking up leaves, getting my yard ready to burn off.By doing this the soil is refreshed from the nutrients from the ash and gives it a good chance to come back green and strong.Once I burn ny lawn I use Scotts turf builder weed and feed,on my lawn.

We always have the greenest and prettiest lawn in our neighborhood,my neighbors are always asking me how I get my grass so green and I tell them.Maybe they will all try it this year. One man paints his yard green this time of year,it doesn't lood good to me,you can tell that it is paint and not grass, though he does put seed down when he does this.

Raking and thatch removal are probably the first couple of things you'll do in the spring

Removing thick layers of thatch from your lawn is important for helping keep the soil aerated, but if your lawn has been, a high-traffic area for several years, thatching might not be enough.

Weed Control

If your lawn has an annual problem with weeds or crabgrass, you'll want to hold off on spring fertilization until you've applied pre-emergent herbicides. These herbicides address the weed control issue by preventing seeds from germinating, so that weeds are prevented from sprouting at all.

In the spring, slow-release fertilizer is a great kick-start for your lawn's new growth

I use Scotts Turf Builder with weed and feed in it,it kills weeds slowly while fertilizing the grass making it thicker and greener.
