Default Advise on what not to do...

When we moved here to help take care of my fiance's mom we had a pretty backyard. Then my fiance and her mom decided they wanted two puppies. These two puppies they brought home were a couple of brothers the size of a full sized boxer adult and only 5 months old... As I said, we HAD a pretty backyard.

They have ate our plants, compose pile, our porches and our decks... Sometimes I am afraid we will be next...

These monsters are still growing so I will keep you informed if we still have a house after the next 6 months.

Puppy's can be hell of a back yard,I got a inner fence for mine to stay in unless I am home to watch him so he doesn't dig up my entire yard.

He digs like a mad dog,and there are holes everywhere making it hard for me to mow when needed. It is really rediculous so I had some dirt brought in to fill the holes and keep the dog in his smaller pin and do not allow him to roam in the back yard unless I am home to make sure he doesn't start digging.

Here is a page that has some great info on stopping puppies and dogs from digging. I hope it helps.

Lol BSClay, I hope you all survive lol. All animals in general can be hell on a house and yard thats for sure. They are so cute though that ity's well worth it! Maybe you can figure out a way to get them to stop tearing everything up lol!

Sounds like these two puppies have way to much energy. One thing I have learned is that puppies with so much energy need a healthy distraction. Playing ball with them may help to wear them out and give them something to keep them entertained.

I had a couple of dogs who managed to actually eat my couch, chair, end tables, and even started in on my fire place. Yeah they were actually eating the house. It was horrible.

This only happened when I left the house, so from then on when I left the house I made sure that they had plenty of food and water of course, lot's and lot's of toys to play with and even a couple of toys that were filled with treats that they loved. These toys made sure that they were kept busy getting the to the treats, rather than eating something else in the house.

There is a lot of information available online regarding the behavior of pets that you will probably find very useful. You may want to do a little research on this and I am sure that you will find many ways to help keep your puppies from causing more damage.

The syndrome that cause these animals to behave as they do is called "separation anxiety", the toys are a great distraction and if all else fails, there is a mild sedative that the dogs can be given for when you are not at home and the medicine will not cause any unwanted after effects either.

With some animals, just leaving the TV on while you are gone will give them the sense that someone is there with them and can help prevent this type of behaviour also depending of course on the animal.
