Default Toxic drywall problems with insurers.

Quote:
James and Maria Ivory's dreams of a relaxing retirement on Florida's Gulf Coast were put on hold when they discovered their new home had been built with Chinese drywall that emits sulfuric fumes and corrodes pipes. It got worse when they asked their insurer for help. Not only was their claim denied, but they've been told their entire policy won't be renewed
And this couple isnt the only ones that have run into this problem. Thousands of people have run into this very same problem. And they also stand the chance of their insurance being cancelled.

It has been found that 500 million pounds of Chinese Gypsum wall board was imported in a four year period from 2004 to 2008 and this was enough drywall to have built tens of thousands of houses. This drywall can cause sulfuric fumes and corroded pipes.

Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi are the states that have the larger part of this drywall in use due to hurricane devastation and the need to rebuild.

Quote:
The defective materials have been found by state and federal agencies to emit "volatile sulfur compounds" and contain traces of strontium sulfide, which can produce a rotten-egg odor, along with organic compounds not found in U.S.-made drywall. Homeowners complain the fumes are corroding copper pipes, destroying TVs and air conditioners, and blackening jewelry and silverware. Some believe the wallboard is also making residents ill.
It has been said that the feds are surveying the problem and may come up for some relief for the homeowners. I would hope that someone will help these people, when it comes to a project making people ill, it needs to be replaced and since the homeowners did not know about the problem before hand, someone needs to come to bat for them so they can get this drywall replaced.

This is horrible news. Especially for those who have had to rebuild due to disaster. This is something that needs to be taken care of right away. Hopefully the goverment will step in and take steps to help those who have homes that contain this toxic drywall.

I believe that the companies that made these materials should be held liable. They should be made to replace it and anything else that was damaged.

They should also have to repay these people for everything related to this issue in terms of living expenses ecetera. This is appalling and should not be let to happen.

That is a great idea Badmomma, but seeing how the drywall was from another country it would be hard getting them to do something such as replacing damaged items, paying hospital and doctor bills and such.

This is what we get for buying things that are not made from our own country.
