James and Maria Ivory's dreams of a relaxing retirement on Florida's Gulf Coast were put on hold when they discovered their new home had been built with Chinese drywall that emits sulfuric fumes and corrodes pipes. It got worse when they asked their insurer for help. Not only was their claim denied, but they've been told their entire policy won't be renewed

And this couple isnt the only ones that have run into this problem. Thousands of people have run into this very same problem. And they also stand the chance of their insurance being cancelled.
It has been found that 500 million pounds of Chinese Gypsum wall board was imported in a four year period from 2004 to 2008 and this was enough drywall to have built tens of thousands of houses. This drywall can cause sulfuric fumes and corroded pipes.
Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi are the states that have the larger part of this drywall in use due to hurricane devastation and the need to rebuild.

The defective materials have been found by state and federal agencies to emit "volatile sulfur compounds" and contain traces of strontium sulfide, which can produce a rotten-egg odor, along with organic compounds not found in U.S.-made drywall. Homeowners complain the fumes are corroding copper pipes, destroying TVs and air conditioners, and blackening jewelry and silverware. Some believe the wallboard is also making residents ill.

It has been said that the feds are surveying the problem and may come up for some relief for the homeowners. I would hope that someone will help these people, when it comes to a project making people ill, it needs to be replaced and since the homeowners did not know about the problem before hand, someone needs to come to bat for them so they can get this drywall replaced.
