Default Finishing Touches

After making all of the necessary renovations and upgrades to the house you need to add the finishing touches. Those things include furniture, throw rugs, wall art, pillows, candles and other simple decor items.

The purpose of adding these things is to make a house feel like a home to those who are looking to buy a house. A house shown empty feels cold and uninviting. A house shown with the things I listed feels warm, cozy- like a place where people can picture themselves living.

You want to keep the art and other decor items simple. You don't want to make the spaces look cluttered or make them look too country or contemporary or any other style. You don't want to push your own tastes on others. They might not like it and decide against the house because they can't picture what they like in that house. So keep things simple.

I believe that some of your finishing touches should include things like cleaning the woodwork.

I know that mine always looks more inviting after its been thouroughly cleaned and then polished.

I suggest doing the same to those cupboards and any wood paneling. It makes the home smell better and can really brighten a room.

Dirty cupboards give the wrong impression especially in the kitchen. They can look outdated or worn out if they are too dingy.

Both of you have given some very good advice. And one thing to remember is that doing the renovations can cause a lot of fine dust that settles on everything.

So a thorough cleaning is an absolute necessity.

I agree flippin, both are great ideas. I know I had rather see a house with things in it so it looks like a home, than goingin a empty house.

They always sell better if shown with things in them instead of empty.

Keeping things simple when it comes to decorating a home for sale is very important, as for the cleaning part...well that is pretty much common sense.

I mean if I were looking to purchase a house and I walked into one and saw that it was dusty and dirty, it would make me wonder what else the home owners have neglected to do in the house. I mean if its to much to dust and clean up a house, then what other things were considered to much to do, things like repairs and so on.

It would really worry me.
