Default Expert Staging Tips for Home Selling

I was reading an article that talked about ten expert tips for getting a house sold at top dollar. They were pretty good tips so I thought I'd share them.

Clutter in a house is not going to help you get it sold and certainly not for your asking price. Get your own personal effects out of the house. That includes family photos and odds and ends such as excessive knick-knacks. It's fine to have some art work but keep it to a minimum.

The outside of the house is the first thing that buyers will see. So get that battered front door a fresh coat of paint or replace it.

You also want to remove throw rugs and couch throws if you have a lot of them. It's great to have one or two in each room to give the house a warmer feeling but there is such a thing as too much. It can look as if you are trying to cover a blemish up.

House plants really do a lot for any house, any room. Just one here and there. You don't want too many, it will look like a jungle.

Those are very useful tips and thanks for posting them.

I will say that one of the contributing factors to our buying this house besides the fact that it has a huge kitchen was the bay window in the living room. My love for house plants was needing a window like this for my plants, and now it is full of them.

The bay window is a plus when selling this place might come up in the future, but I do see where all of the plants would hamper the sale possibly.

People need to see their things in your house, and an empty bay window just might be the thing to inspire someone else as it did me.

Also, as you said, keeping knick knacks and such to a minimum can also let people get the insight as to where they would place their things if they lived in your house and thats what you need to be able to let them see.

Also, adding a window in key places can make a difference. I added a pretty large one in the living room of the house I am working on now. I found the window (6040) on craigslist for $20, cost me less than $100 for everything to get in and it's likely to add at least $1000 in value.

Just adding a window itself may not be a great idea but when you have a large living room with not enough natural light then it could make more sense to do it... my opinion anyway...

Hi there Cal. You are right about adding windows where needed. This can give you an extra return on the selling price of the home.

When we moved in here, our kitchen, which is really large, only had one window. When we put the new oak kitchen cabinets in, we installed another window in the opposite wall and the amount of light in the kitchen is much better now. And this one window will also help bring more money if we ever decide to sell.

Hey Cal, great to see ya here.

I also agree that adding windows is a great way to boost your profit and increase interest in the house. Most people don't like the "dark and dreary". People want open spaces and lots of natural light.
