Default Time to replace or update

Well now that the beautiful weather has finally returned, its the perfect time to head outdoors and give everything a good looking over to see what needs to be replaced, fixed, painted and what not.

Winter weather really takes a toll on things exposed to the elements. Things such as light fixtures, furniture, door hinges, door handles, mail boxes, house numbers and so on.

These are just a few of the things that normally take alot of abuse from the winter weather and should be checked carefully.

Some of the most simple things like these can make a home look a bit on the run down side and that is something that you dont want your home looking like.

Replacing these things or fixing them up again can and will make a huge difference in the appearence of your home.

As for the light fixtures and things along those lines if the winter weather has hit them hard, it is proably a better idea to replace them. Electrical items are something that if not properly taken care of can cause fires and that is the very last thing you want to happen to your home.

From what I hear this beautiful weather we have been having where I live is about to come to a dead stop. I watched the weather this morning and learned that we will be getting snow showers on Monday! Yuck! I really thought that we were done with all of that by now!

So don't start the outdoor planting just yet. Snow might be on the way!!!

Yeppers now is the time to get all excited about checking things out and fixing them up.What you do now will affect the cost of maintaining your home later.

Check all of your pipes under your home, see if they cracked or anything over the cold winter. Not all leaks are very evident, but over time unfixed they will get worse.

Another thing to check out is your air conditioning unit outside.Make sure that it is clean and free of leaves a debris. This will ensure that the unit doesn't struggle to breathe this summer.

Next check your chimney flutes to ensure that they are closed for the summer. This will help keep the cooling cost down this year.

Another big thing to really check out is your roof, making sure that you didn't loose any shingles this winter. If so fix them before the April showers get here.

Well even if the weather does turn around and get bad again, while it is nice you can always head out and start checking things out carefully and making plans on what is going to be needed to get things fixed up and what will need to be replaced.

I know this is something that I have started, I have noticed that there are a few things around my place that are in need of repair or replacement.

I guess however that I may need to check the weather in my area as well to make sure that I can start with what needs to be done or if I should hold off on it for a bit longer.

Either way at least while I am able to I will get out there and at least check over everything and make a list of what I want done and of course what will need to be done.

A few things I noticed was that my garden hose was in need of replacement, apparently I must have forgotten to pack it away for winter and it is all cracked now, my mail box has seen better days so that will be getting replaced, the house numbers are alright for another year though I will proably give them a nice coat of paint. That is what I have found so far.

Our big replacement to be done this year is our garage door. It is wooden and a few years ago we had several floods and the bottom of the door is starting to rot because of the water damage.

We will be getting a non wooden door this year and besides looking much better, the newer doors help insulate the garage which is under our house.

One advantage to being married to a carpenter is that this is a job we can do ourselves, thus saving a lot of money on this job.

There are other things we need to replace or paint, but they are much less in cost.

Our biggest problem with getting things done around our house is having the money and the time at the same time. It never seems to work out right for us.

I work different days through the week every other weekend. Of course my paydays fall on my weekends to work.

The hubby is a tree trimmer so he works all kinds of weird crazy hours.

It just makes it hard to get anything done!
