Default Help! - Need Exterior Ideas!

My family and I had bought this house about five years ago. We originally thought this was going to be our forever house, but we began to miss the city life and all of the excitement and accessibility of living near everything.

When we first bought this house it was a true nightmare. The only insulation we could find was the previous owners socks and underwear - he had built the place. A completely unfinished basement, one full bath - with a whirlpool which he had never cleaned, GROSS - and a half bath. Of course it had the kitchen and a living room - which are both huge - but both were not very pretty. We have looked up all of the products he had used, he had plenty of money for a beautiful home, he just wasn't very tasteful.

The outside I find it the most frustrating part of our home, it's basically a box and seems so boring to us and we can't think of any ideas! We need a new pair of eyes to take a look at it for what it might be!

Here it is .. Sorry I couldn't get the picture to upload so its on photobucket, here's the link! ..

Give me your ideas! If you could even sketch them out, that would be awesome .. I'm what you would call artistically challenged I would really love to hear everyone's ideas on what we should do with it!

P.s - We are for sure either changing the door or at least repainting it!

Thanks ahead of time!! =)

Hello there and we are glad to have you with us here at New House Flip.

I looked at the picture that you gave us of the house and am coming up with some ideas about how to make it more to your liking.

These ideas will include either a porch of some type or a pergola that would run the length of the front of the house, plus some landscaping tips.

Please let me have until at least the weekend to study the pic and then give you my ideas.

Take all the time you need! No pressure time wise, we're not on any kind of deadline to do this so no worries. =)

I am so glad to have the extension of time as I have grandsons this weekend and wont have time to sit down and really work on this until the first of the week, but rest assured, I will get to this the first of the week.

I think we can come up with something you will like. Then your work begins, lol.

I had been thinking that a porch roof and patio below it all the way across the front of the house would be a good idea but after looking at the picture again, the only way you could do a porch roof would be between the two windows on either side of the door.

I think that you could get away with painting the door if the integrity of the door itself is as good as it looks.

In keeping with the theme of the house, putting lattice board on both ends of the porch with vining plants growing up it would allow for privacy and shade.

I would also update the light fixtures on both sides of the door.

Then comes in your landscaping. Landscaping could be of your choosing and I would landscape both sides of the porch. Plus, maybe a couple of weeping cherry trees place at advantageous areas would add to the over look of the home.
