Default First impressions

First impressions matter a great deal when it comes to the value of your home. Those in the real estate business call this curb appeal and now more than ever it is more important. Around 70% of those looking to purchase a home get their first impression of the home from pictures on the internet. If the picture is not appealing, potential buyers will not look any further at the home. So it is very important to be sure that your homes curb appeal is actually appealing. This is also for those who do not plan on selling their home. Even if you are not selling your home it is a very good idea to keep your biggest asset in the best condition as possible. Here are a few ideas to help you with some flaws that are often found in a home that owners tend to over look but that buyers notice right away.
One of the first things people notice are the driveways to a home, and if the black top looks smooth and new this will also make the home itself look much more appealing. So if your drive way has seen better days it is a good idea to recoat it with an asphalt sealer. This is done by thoroughly cleaning it with a pressure washer, allow it to dry, then apply the sealer. Though if there are oil spots on your drive way the sealer will not adhere to it, so to solve this problem be sure to use an oil spot remover prior to applying the sealer.
The second most noticed thing is the grass. Is your grass so high that people have to hunt for the sidewalk? If this is true for your home, you need to get out the lawn mower and tame that jungle. It is also important that you edge along your sidewalk, so that as the grass begins to grow, it is less likely to begin covering your sidewalk right away. Now if you have a lawn which has a steep slope it might be a better idea for you to plant some ground cover, which will replace the grass along with the need to mow this dangerous area. Though keep in mind it can take a few years for the ground cover to completely cover your hill. So be patient with it.
Another site which is noticed by potential home buyers are your shrubs. If you have allowed your shurbs to become over grown, it will reduce the appeal of your home. Once again it is time to break out those hedge clippers and tame that shrub jungle. Keeping your shrubs tamed adds a great deal of appeal to your home, and catches the eyes of potential buyers.
Having shade around your home from trees is great. Though if under your trees you see bare dirt this isnt so great. A good idea here is to add a border around your tree base, add in some top soil and then add a few plants which can tolerate the shade.
If you have any plant beds which you have neglected because they were to difficult to maintain with the weeding and watering, a good plan here is to lay in some mulch which will hold in the moisture for your plants and also help to keep those nasty weeds at bay.

Clogged gutters are another item which gets noticed. This is because if your gutters are clogged up the water will spill over them leaving marks around your home. It is important that they are kept clear to allow the rain water to flow through them freely, and to stop overspill from leaving its mark on your home.
These are just a few tips to help you make your home more appealing to potential buyers or just to help keep your biggest asset beautiful. I do hope that you will find these tips useful around your home.

These really are great tips as first impressions can mean everything when it comes to selling a house. Everything doesn't have to be absolutely perfect but it needs to appear that way or people won't even consider your home.

It is amazing how so many people tend to over look the simple things outside of the home, when attempting to sell it. With just a little time and a little elbow grease, they could make sure that their home will sell quickly and for top dollar.Though all to often people dont stop to look at their headges or shrubs, driveway, walk ways or other small things that will cause potential buyers to walk away! The looks of the exterior of the home is just as important as the interior.
