Default Dress up the landscape now.

Spring is coming and now is a great time to get outside and clean up those flower beds. Removing all weeds now can prevent regrowth when everything begins to green up.

Now is also when I put in my new mulch. It can be moved to the side later if you wish to plant new flowers.

If you get a head start on the landscaping now, you will save a lot of time and irritation later, and when spring blooms, everything will be new and fresh.

I'm confused are you saying that if you remove the dead to soon that regrowth of you existing plants will be delaid..

"Removing all weeds now can prevent regrowth when everything begins to green up."

I don't want to do it to soon if it is harmful to my plants.

No, I am talking about retarding future weed growth by removing the dead ones now.

As you know, here in Southern Ohio, we have frost till about the 18th of May so until then, covering new plants will save them from the frost.

Now is also the time to start seeds in the house for plants that you want to put out later. By the time the safe planting season is here, the new plants are just the right size to replant outdoors.

Marigold seeds can be started now as soon as the ground is workable. They seem to like the chilly weather and when they come up, the really grow fast and really large.

I have a lot of work to do in my flower beds so if I weed now that will prevent regrowth Iam all for that. Are there products that you can use to prevent weed growth as well and are they safe to use around your flowers and plants.

yea, there's a great product out there that will remove all the weeds and is inviromentallly safe. It takes out all the weeds while not harming any of your plants or other shrubs in the process. Once the weeds are removed, this same product can spread your mulch for you too, and give you that professional landscape look. Its called your hands. LOL

also, try weedblocker cloth in problem areas. It comes on a roll at Home Depot. This works good under riverrock beds and mulch beds. You can cut it to fit around your existing plants/shrubs. It works good and still lets water through. Looks like black mesh cloth..

I think that too much overgrowth strangles some plants.
THey can't fight there way though it. However it does help
hold the heat and water in the soil in some cases so just be careful.
I hate this time of year for gardening I have accidentally pulled stuff
that I didn't want to pull.

Even better than the product from Home Depot, spread wet newspapers over the ground before you add your mulch, its biodegradable and the weeds cant come through it.

You may have to change it annually but the price is right and it does a fantastic job of weed control, plus, as your plants start spreading, it wont hamper the spread.
