Default Be safe while doing yard work.

Keeping up with your homes outside appearance can take a lot of time and energy. But you musn't forget about safety while completing these tasks. So here are a few safety tips for you.

1. Never remove the safety guards on your mower, or any other equipment you will be using.

2. Always wear sturdy shoes, and your clothing should be comfortable but not too loose to prevent your clothing getting caught in any equipment you are using.

3. Remove jewelry. Rings can be a hazard when doing any job.

4. Clean and inspect all equipment before using it. Now would be a good time to replace weed eater string, oil parts that need oiling and all the other things that need fixed.

5. Make sure all outside outlets have a ground fault circuit interruptors, and that they have covers that can be closed to keep out any rain or sprinkler water.

6. Safety glasses and hearing protection is also a must when mowing etc. And especially when using a weed eater.

I hope these tips help keep you safe while you take care of all the plants, etc that add to your curb appeal.

These are great tips to follow while working outdoors. I am constantly after my son about wearing safety glasses while weed eating. It isn't that he minds wearing them, he just always forgets!

Another tip to remember is to take breaks often, especially if you are out in the heat. It is easy to lose track of how much time you have spent working and the last thing you want is heat exhaustion. It is dangerous and can be deadly. Also, don't forget to put on a layer of sunscreen to protect your skin.

Thank you for the additional ideas on staying safe while doing outdoor work. It seems as though I have missed the obvious ones like sunscreen and watching the amount of time you are spending outdoors in the heat to prevent heat exhaustion.

I would also add that using an insect repellent would be a good idea, since those pesky little mosquitoes can be carrying harmful disease. They seem to be attracted to sweat, and in the heat of summer, we do sweat, whether we like to admit it or not.
