Beyond repainting the entire room, you can use other steps to refresh the room with paint.

If your room is all white, paint the moldings and door and window trims in a deep contrast color to go along with and enhance a color that already exists in the room.

If the room is white, paint the ceiling a soft rich color like skyblue, or sea green to add interest to the decor.

If you want to be even bolder in your use of colors to enhance the room, and you have colored walls in your room, try a soft green ceiling with yellow walls. Use contrasting colors for whatever color the walls are.

A good pallett to go with colors from is your carpet. If you have a broadloom carpet, going with a lighter shade will add a feeling of airiness, going with a darker shade can make the room seem to be more formal.

Dont be afraid to experiment. If you have an idea you would like to try, go ahead and try it, you can always paint over it later.

You've inspired me, flippinout. I've been thinking of painting the doors in my living room in lighter colors to make the room have a more airy feeling. I really hate that my living room is paneled, but right now I'm hesitating to spend so much money on paint to paint the whole room. I don't think it would take more than a quart of paint to paint the 2 doors that need to be lightened up, though, so I'm going to try it out!

Have you ever tried the sea sponge technique to add a little something extra to a room? It is really beautiful when done properly. You just choose two or three different shades of a color. Start by sponging on the lightest of the shades you have chosen. Allow that to dry and then add the second, darker color. If you have chosen three shades, allow the second to dry and then apply the last. You will be able to see hints of the other shades come through and it looks really beautiful.
