Default The right way to measure for blinds, drapes, etc.

First, decide on whether you want your blinds on the outside of the window or on the inside of the window frame, this way you can be sure of the look you want when you are finished with your project.

When measuring, use a wood or metal ruler, not a tape measure for more accurate measurements.

If you are installing blinds inside the window frame, measure the distance between the inside surfaces at the top, middle and bottom of the window, then go with the narrowest measurement.

To measure the length, measure the inside surface at the top of the window down to the sill. And, if you dont want the blind to touch the sill, simply measure to where you want the blind to end.

For finding the width for placing the blind on the outside frame, measure the distance between the outermost points. If you are looking to install vertical blinds and want to increase coverage for more privacy, add 3 inches to the sides. This will also increase light control.

To measure length for the verticals, measure from the top of where the blind will go to the window sill.

Measuring a window for blinds, etc. does not have to be a daunting task and can be accomplished without having an expert do it.

Default Re: The right way to measure for blinds, drapes, etc.

I think the biggest key here, is using a yardstick when measuring.......so many times we use the wrong tool, which throws the whole project off!

Also, too many times, we look at a project and think that it is too hard to do. My theory on this, is that if we don't try, we'll never know for sure.....so just go ahead and try
