Default Stones as Decorations.

I had a friend who painted scenes on stones. They were very beautiful and she sold quite a few of them. I thought that they were some of the nicest things I had ever seen. You could use them in walkways or stand them on your deck.
I like to use stones in my fish tank. They make great places for the fish to hide. There are some that are just beautiful and I put them in vases to add color. I sometimes
will take some and put them in a bowl on a stand just for a decoration.
I have also seen people use stones in planters. They help the water get through to the roots of the plants. If you are a creative person or not so creative you can find many uses for stones. Use them as borders for your walkways or as a border or fence for your yard.
The only limit is your imagination. You can get stones anywhere and most are free. Check with the local farmers, when they till their fields they pull up allot of them. I am sure that they would be happy to get rid of them. It saves them sometime and space.

I also paint on stones and rocks, not scenes but animals and some which now look like little baskets of flowers. I go to the river to look for rounded rocks which could later become a beagle or hamster. I have had piles of these rocks in my yard which necessitated a plan to incorporate them into my landscaping until I am ready for my next painting project.

I've placed the rocks around my little pond, and throughout my flower beds. They really add a lot of interest to the areas in which they've been placed, and also help to keep weed growth down a bit. I don't think I'll ever have another flower bed without some rocks placed around the plants. They really help in making the beds special.

You are both right about adding stones to flower beds, there are some beautiful stones that just need to be washed and put in the gardens.

Another thing that adds interest is wood. You can find branches in just about any concievable shape and several colors, white, tan, brown etc. They also can add interest.

You can also use vines to create interest in flower beds. You just have to look around and use your imagination.

Ive seen the animals painted on rocks and they are so cute. Wouldnt mind having a few for around my pond. Hint, hint.

i love painting rocks....they really do look great, and if you are using pastels or brilliant colors, they stand out and make any yard look cheery!...and you can even paint with flouresants to make a walk way light up at night!

Various types of stones do make great decorations for inside the home as well as the outside of the home. I dont have many around my home or in my home, but I am working on that. I do have one rock which my mother had painted for me. It now sits on my desk and is used as a paper weight. She painted the face of a cat on it and I love it. I am hoping to have her paint several other rocks for me so that I can have a small rock zoo in my home.
