Default Scented Decorations for the home

Scented Cinnamon Decorations

These ornaments are great to give away as gifts for the holidays, though with the use of different cookie cutters, you can create scented decorations for your home all year round. Here is what you will need to create your dough
1 Tsp cloves
1 Tsp nutmeg
2 Tablespoons white elmers glue
3/4 cup applesauce
1 cup ground cinnamon
Cookie cutters that you will be using
Red, white or green ribbon
If you are wanting to paint your decorations you will need some paint. Fabric paint works great on these decorations.

Start by combining together the applesauce, nutmeg, cinnamon, vloves and glue. Mix til a stiff dough forms. Knead well with hands.
Roll out the dough on a surface which as been dusted with cinnamon, to about 1/4 of an inch in thickness. Next use the cookie cutter shapes you have chosen and begin cutting out your designs.
As you cut out your shapes lay these ornaments onto a sheet of waxed paper. Using either a straw (which works very well) or a tooth pick, cut out a small hole at the top of your decoration.
It will take around 2 or even 4 days for these decorations to dry completely. It will depend on how dry your home is. While your decorations are drying make sure to carefully turn them over a few times per day to allow for even drying.

Once the decorations are completely dry, you can use your fabric paint to add a splash of color to your decorations. Then just add a loop made of your ribbon color of choice and decorate your home, or prepare them as a gift.

These would be nice to add to a gift as a gift tag - just simply paint the recipient's name on the ornament in a coordinating color and tie to the gift's ribbon.

These are excellent ideas and the scent that would waft through your home would be very nice.

The idea of using these as gift tags is also a great idea. Add the year to the name and it could become someones keepsake.

These would also be great to use as sachet's for your closet and drawers. Thanks for the post. You could even make these into decorations for every season... hearts for Valentines day and so on. This is a great idea!

You just have to be careful with the scents. Some people may be allergic. I am to most scents. I can tolerate vanilla, apple n spice, and honey dew melon.
