Default Refurbishing furniture.

Refurbishing good wooden furniture has always been a passion with me and though it takes a little time and effort, the end result is worth all the work.

I have bought used dressers for $5 or $10 and sanded them down, stained them, then put on a couple of layers of clear varnish and new drawer handles and the result was brand new looking furniture that can be stained to match any decor you like.

I have always liked saving old drawer handles as they are very pretty and when you add them to a refinished dresser, you have a very unique piece of furniture that no one else has.

I have been building shelves too for knickknacks and finishing them. These make excellent house warming or holiday gifts besides being very useful at home.

I use plexiglass instead of real glass because those shelves can be used in childrens rooms without the fear of an injury.

I make these shelves because I can make any design I want and most of the ones I see in the stores just arent at all appealing. Plus, I can make any size shelves I want. Im not limited in any way with size or design and I can have the finish on them that I want, not what someone else decided on.

I was cleaning out my totes the other day and ran across some drawer handles that I had forgotten about. These are in a design that hasnt been made for years and are brass handles.

I have decided that this would be a good project for me this winter. I will have my soninlaw find me an old wooden dresser to refinish and use these handles on it when it is done. I will post pictures of the before and after of this refinishing job so that you can see what a difference in the dresser and so that you can also admire these gorgeous handles.

I have several old wooden dressers and a wooden rocking chair coming in this week to be redone.

I am going to try to post before and after pictures so that you can see the end result to refurbishing old furniture.

This will be a project that will keep me entertained during the cold winter months this year.

i just love the thought of bring old furnishings back to life the saying goes everything old is new again lol but the hard work is well worth it in the end as far as a sence of knowing that u have the love put into something that can make someone eles happy like a old childs rocker to redo it and pass it on to the next little one that comes into the family and know that it will live on is a great blessing

I love working with my hands and refurbishing furniture is really relaxing to me plus the sense of accomplishment is good for the soul.

I love taking old stuff and making it new looking again. Plus, you can take an old dresser etc and sand it down and stain and varnish it in colors that fit right in with what you already have. And most likely at a much cheaper cost than buying new, plus the refinished furniture is actual wood and will last much longer.
