Default Making a storage area for riding lawnmowers etc.

Our back deck sits about 8 feet off the ground and with the area being 10 by 10 feet, it offers a lot of area in which our riding lawnmower, concrete mixer, and several other large items could be stored. But once under the deck, these objects looked so messy sitting there.

After looking at this "mess" for a couple of weeks, I came up with the idea of putting privacy fence around the bottom of the deck to "hide" the storage area. Once put up, I painted the privacy fence to match the rest of the deck and it turned out to be a great idea.

The cost of the privacy fence and water repellent that was used on it was minimal and with this we were able to hide what would have otherwise been an eyesore.

I never thought of using privacy fencing for that purpose but I have used lattice to do that. It also works well and looks good too. You can even find lattice made of a plastic material that is very durable in just about any home improvement store. It can be bought in an array of colors or even with a wood grain look.

I agree that lattice work is very pretty but if you are married, you know that men do nothing gently. Lol, thats why I opted for the privacy fence. If he hits it with the mower, it wont be as easily destroyed.

If I were using the same area for plant potting etc, then I would definitely opt for the lattice board as it lets in a lot of light but still gives a sense of privacy.

That is a great Idea for hiding away a lawn mower or lawn tractor. My sister put lattice up around the bottom of her deck that sits 6 foot off the ground and left a doggie door for her two huge dogs to get under and in the shade for the summer and out of the rain and snow when they want outside.

Default hiding a riding mower

What a bunch of great ideas and it sound like you have utilized the new deck for two purposes for sitting on the top for human and the bottom for the animals to use for shade in the summer and shelter form the elements of the weather Don't ya just love when a project can be turned into many facets of use there is nothing better than getting many uses out of one project

We have lattice work around the bottom of our deck.
The potential storage area isn't very big but would be
a great place to put those summer swimming pools ecetera
in the fall. All we have to do now is add a gate for easy access.
Thank you all for all the useful tips and suggestions.

The only problem I find with our storage area is that my husband has also used it for storage of other things besides the tractors.

Every once in a while I have to get after him to get rid of some of the stuff he has under there. After all, who needs 3 concrete mixers, lol.
