Default Jumbled Decor

I know of several people who cant seem to decide what they want to decorate their homes with.

For example I know of one woman who in just her living room has kittens, dragons, swords, chickens and cows everywhere. This room isn't the worst of the rooms but as you can imagine that it doesn't look very appealing at all.

The room when you enter into it actually makes you feel over whelmed and uninvited. This I have seen in many houses and isn't something that should be done.

The best idea for decorating a room is to choose something or a theme for every room in the house and stick to it. If you have more likes as the lady that I know, then spread each thing out in different areas of the house.

I know it can be a bit difficult especially when there are a lot of things that you like and like to collect. Though cluttering them into one room isn't the best way to go about decorating your home.

I can visualize exactly what you are talking about and it would be very overwhelming.

I think in this case, the chickens and cows could go in the kitchen if they have to be displayed.

Her bedroom would be a good place for the kittens as they seem more appropriate in that room.

The dragons, well I guess that collection could be left in the living room, but it should not take over the whole room.

A better idea yet would be to put all the collections but one away. Display it for a while, then put it away and bring out another collection for a while. And, if it is a very large collection, just pick out the ones you like the best to display. Otherwise, as you said, you end up with a cluttered room.

Thats kind of what I do because I like different things. Not just one thing. So I will display a set of something for a while and when I get tired of it, I box it up and get something else out. I tend to bore easily so having the different themes that I can change works for me.

Well thankfully we are now working on getting the jumbled mess of decorations in order. So far the place is starting to look soooo much better its unreal. She is even liking it more and more as we get things done.

The dragons are out, they will all be sold off in a yard sale she is planning on having this summer. As for the other animals they are being spread throughout the house so that each room will hold something different.

Its really going to look awesome when it is completed. I cant wait to see how great it looks and feels when we are done.

Thanks for the tips and ideas everyone, they were a huge help in this situation.

Man do I know people that are pack rats and try to cram everything that they own in their home as decor.

Sometimes the decor is so bad that there is no theme at all just lots of stuff.I know some that have toms of stuff and it all matches but there is just too much of it.

You have to know when to stop,as far as you can only put so much stuff in a room. You want to make sure that it is easily cleanable so you can't just cram stuff up.

Remember it is aggravating to try and dust when there are literally thousands of items everywhere.Keep it simple and neat, you can always store what you are not using and switch it up later.

I agree having a mixture of things in one room is a very bad idea, but by spreading it though out the house it can make each room great.

I prefer to keep things simple so that I don't have so much to dust and keep clean. That helps me to curb the need to decorate everything possible.
